Walter Moorhead of Salisbury was arrested in connection with the death of Santos Maria Chilel Soto, 39, from Georgetown, Delaware. The shooting happened around 7:40 p.m. on Friday in an open field in Ellendale. Police said Soto was walking through the field with a man and two children at the time.

What Police Say Happened

Moorhead was hunting from a ground blind, a camouflaged setup used to stay hidden from animals. Police say he believed he saw a deer and fired his rifle. The shot hit Soto instead.

Troopers arrived at the field and tried to give her life-saving care. She was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Charges Filed Against the Hunter

Moorhead is charged with manslaughter for recklessly causing the death of another person. He also faces a count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He posted a $43,000 cash bond and was released. Delaware State Police are still investigating.

Background on the Victim

Soto was a mother of five. A fundraising page created for her family described her as a beloved aunt and noted the high costs they are now facing while grieving and trying to send her body back to Guatemala.

The charges against Moorhead remain allegations until a court decides otherwise. Anyone facing serious criminal accusations has the right to a full defense and is presumed innocent.

A man allegedly convinced valet workers at a Savannah hotel he was a professional basketball player, then drove off in a $90,000 BMW that wasn’t his.

Police say the suspect walked through the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Savannah around 12:30 a.m. on August 14, took some items from a white Audi, and presented a valet ticket for a gray 2026 BMW X5. He told staff he was a pro basketball player who had several cars at the hotel. Then he got into the BMW and left.

The SUV was a dealership loaner being used by a hotel guest. Each valet ticket is linked to a specific vehicle, the workers later told police.

Other Cars Linked to the Same Person

The dealership tracked the BMW to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Savannah police listed it as stolen in both state and national databases.

Investigators also found that the white 2025 Audi the man had been seen with earlier was reported stolen the day before. It was discovered unlocked in the hotel parking garage with no visible damage.

Police have connected the same suspect to another valet theft at a Fairfield Inn in Savannah roughly two weeks earlier. A guest left a black 2019 Toyota C-HR with the valet service. When she tried to retrieve it the next morning, the car was gone. Records showed the retrieval code had already been used hours earlier, and the key was missing from the lockbox.

What Investigators Usually Look at First

In cases that start at a hotel valet stand, the early evidence is often very specific. Cameras show who approached the desk and what was said. Ticket logs record which code was used and when. Key storage records show whether a key was still checked in or already gone.

When a second or third vehicle shows up in another city, investigators compare those same records. Matching descriptions, similar language used with staff, or the same way of getting a key can turn separate reports into one larger investigation.

Claiming to be someone important can persuade busy employees to release a car without extra checks. Once the vehicle is gone, though, the camera footage and paperwork remain. That trail is usually what lets police in one place alert authorities somewhere else.

When the Situation Affects You Directly

A missing car, an unexpected call from police, or the news that a vehicle registered in your name has been recovered somewhere else can raise immediate practical questions. People whose cars were taken often need help documenting the loss and dealing with insurance. Family members may be trying to understand whether a relative is being asked to speak with investigators. Others simply want a clear explanation of what the public reports actually mean and what steps, if any, are available.

Bukh Law P.A. handles theft and related matters in New York courts. If you would like someone to review the available documents with you and explain the practical next steps in plain language, use the contact form on our website and request a free phone conversation.

Bring whatever records or notices you have. We will go through them carefully with you.

According to the report, Seth was released last week after five shoplifting arrests. He had been out of Rikers Island for less than a week after finishing a five-month sentence for earlier thefts.

New York law limits cash bail for many non-violent offenses, including the kind of charges he faced.

The Recent Incidents

Prosecutors said the latest cases involved theft of store merchandise, including about $600 worth of candles from a Target. In one of those incidents, he allegedly threatened a store clerk. Despite his long record and the new arrests, he was released under current bail rules.

Seth’s background includes earlier cases of larceny, robbery, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer. The editorial argued that repeated releases after low-level offenses can let some people build longer and more serious records over time.

How Bail Decisions Work on the Ground

Under New York’s bail laws, judges in many misdemeanor and non-violent felony cases cannot set cash bail or hold someone just because they might be a risk to the community. The main question is whether the person is likely to come back to court.

Critics say this makes it hard to keep repeat offenders off the street when they keep picking up similar charges. Supporters say the rules stop people from sitting in jail simply because they cannot pay bail while their cases are still open.

In practice, the pattern is familiar in city courtrooms. A defendant with a long list of low-level arrests often walks out the same day or shortly after arraignment. Some show up for the next date. Others get arrested again before that date arrives. When the new charge is also one that does not allow bail, the cycle can start over.

When a Long Record Meets a Fresh Arrest

For anyone facing charges in New York, especially with a prior record, the first questions are practical. What exactly is charged? Whether the offense allows bail or remand under the current statute. What the evidence looks like in the new case. And how the earlier convictions will affect any plea talk or possible sentence.

Chad Williams, 24, carried out the attack with a rifle around 2 p.m. and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said at a news conference on Sunday.

What Happened at the Scene

Williams started shooting outside the restaurant and moved into the parking lot. Police described the scene as chaotic. An off-duty officer and a civilian shot back. Authorities say those actions helped push him away from the restaurant and kept the number of casualties from going higher.

Video from a nearby car showed the gunman walking through the parking lot and firing at a blue Tesla. One of the people killed worked at the In-N-Out, according to the company’s president. Of the seven people who were wounded, two have already left the hospital, three are stable, and two are still in critical condition.

Williams acted alone. His family has been working with investigators, and police say they still do not know why he did it.

How These Investigations Usually Go

When the shooter dies at the scene, the work turns to putting the timeline together, identifying every victim, and checking whether anyone else was involved. Detectives go through surveillance video, talk to witnesses, examine the ballistic evidence, and look into the gunman’s background. Families of the victims and the shooter’s family often end up answering a lot of questions while the investigation continues.

These situations can also lead to civil claims, estate issues, and other legal needs for survivors and relatives. What people say to police or the media early on can stay on the record for a long time.

When Legal Guidance Helps

Anyone connected to an incident like this, whether they were there, are related to someone who was hurt, or later get contacted by investigators, may need clear advice on how the process works and what rights they have.

The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, were taken into custody by U.S. Marshals acting on a request from British authorities.

The Charges Involved

British prosecutors have added new charges against both men. Andrew now faces additional counts of rape, sex trafficking, and possession of indecent images of a child. Tristan faces new rape and trafficking-related charges. In total, the brothers are facing dozens of charges connected to several alleged victims.

The Tate brothers have been living in Romania since 2016. They’re actually under investigation over there for pretty much the same allegations. In early 2025, they were allowed to leave the country and flew straight to Florida. Actually, they arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 27, 2025, after Romanian authorities lifted their travel restrictions.

The UK had ongoing interest for years, but the combination of new allegations plus the brothers being in the US (outside Romania’s restrictions) enabled the specific arrest that culminated in July 2026.

How Extradition Between the US and UK Usually Plays Out

The whole thing is based on a long-standing extradition treaty between the UK and the US. It usually kicks off when the UK sends a formal request through official diplomatic channels. American authorities then track the person down and arrest them.

From there, the individual is brought before a federal magistrate judge. The judge’s job is pretty straightforward: confirm they’ve got the right person and that there’s enough evidence (probable cause) to back up the charges.

If the judge says yes, the process moves forward. At that point, the person can either agree to be extradited (waive it) or decide to fight it. Fighting extradition often means arguing that the case doesn’t actually meet the treaty’s requirements, that the request is politically motivated, or that sending them to the UK would violate their basic rights. They can appeal the decision, but the options are pretty limited.

In the end, it’s not even the courts that have the final say; it’s the Trump administration. Any final decision regarding this extradition would have been made by them. They make the ultimate call after weighing all the diplomatic and policy angles.

Things get more complicated when multiple countries have a stake in the same person. In this situation, Romania still has its own active investigation, the UK wants the Tates for trial on sex crimes, and the U.S. is handling the extradition while also dealing with the brothers’ American citizenship.

Dual nationals sometimes argue that returning them abroad would be unfair or that they face harsher treatment. Courts tend to respect the treaty obligations, but the Secretary of State has some discretion in rare cases involving humanitarian issues or broader national interests.

High-profile cases like this often stretch on for months. You’ll see public statements, back-and-forth legal motions, and plenty of behind-the-scenes negotiations.

The Tates’ legal team has already called the arrest politically motivated, which strongly suggests a long, hard-fought legal battle ahead.

Robert Brandon Keller, 32, was found guilty of murder and several other charges in the October 2024 killing of Bruce William Dupree, 43, in Bulloch County.

He received two consecutive life sentences plus 25 additional years.

How the Crime Unfolded

According to court testimony, Dupree pulled over on I-16 to give Keller a ride while he was hitchhiking. Under the influence of drugs, Keller attacked Dupree, slashing his throat and dragging his body into the grassy median before stealing his car. A passing driver called 911 after seeing the injured man. Dupree later died from his wounds.

Police tracked Keller down pretty quickly — he was still in the stolen vehicle — and arrested him at a motel. In court, things got weird fast: Keller started making bizarre claims about being some kind of divine figure and openly said he didn’t trust the legal system at all.

The Sentencing and Its Context

Judge Matthew Hube called Keller the worst of us. He said Keller had taken advantage of someone who was only trying to help and left nothing but destruction behind. The victim’s family talked about their irreplaceable loss, and one relative said that at least the justice system had stopped others from going through the same nightmare.

Keller struggled with serious mental health and substance abuse problems. Stuff like this isn’t just a side note. It often shapes how violent crimes happen and seriously affects the strategies on both sides in court.

What These Cases Show Us

Crimes like this really drive home how fast things can fall apart. One moment you’re just on the road, the next thing turns violent.

In court, these cases usually come down to clear forensic evidence, what witnesses actually saw, and a deep look into what was going through the person’s head at the time.

In the end, the outcome often depends on how effectively both sides present the facts and bring up any important mitigating circumstances.

Seeking Experienced Legal Defense in New York

If you or a loved one needs assistance in untangling criminal charges, perhaps violence, mental health issues, or any felony, the beginning of the case is critical.

Having a strong lawyer on your side early can truly change the direction of things. A seasoned attorney knows how to sort through tough evidence, find every angle, and push for the best outcome.

The case has shocked the community and serves as a grim reminder of how vulnerable young children can be when those responsible for their care fail them.

Sunshyne Davis, 25, and Robert White, 39, were indicted Wednesday in Kings County Supreme Court. Davis was arraigned before Justice Donald Leo, while White will be arraigned at a later date.

Both face charges of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Details of the Alleged Abuse and Discovery

On March 9, 2025, the defendants allegedly dropped the boy, Kyng Davis, at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in East Flatbush.

They spoke briefly with medical staff before driving away. An autopsy later determined the child died from blunt force trauma combined with severe neglect, starvation, and dehydration.

At the time of the incident, Davis and White were reportedly living in White’s car. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez stated, “This innocent child allegedly suffered day after day, denied the most basic care and compassion. We will vigorously prosecute this case to secure justice for Kyng.”

Serious Charges and Legal Process

These are some of the toughest charges you’ll find under New York law. If someone’s convicted of second-degree murder, they’re looking at decades behind bars—maybe even life.

On top of that, a charge like endangering the welfare of a child means the person is also being held responsible for not keeping the child safe or meeting their basic needs.

Anytime a young child dies, the public pays attention. These cases get complicated fast, with all the medical records, witness stories, and forensic reports that come with them.

Both sides in court have to pick their way through all of that, and not a single detail can get overlooked.

The Broader Impact on Families

Cases like this really show what happens when child neglect or abuse isn’t stopped in time. The damage can be heartbreaking. They also remind us why the legal process has to be fair for everyone, whether you’re a victim’s family looking for justice or someone accused of a serious crime.

People caught up in these situations, be it parents, caregivers, or even the accused, always end up dealing with all kinds of stress and uncertainty.

And honestly, the legal system is a maze. Trying to handle it alone is tough, so having a good lawyer from the start matters a lot.

Sinmi Asomuyide, 33, used his badge and police tools to track the teen’s phone, handcuff her, and drive her to an empty parking lot.

The jury said he not only carried out the assault but also lied to investigators and deleted messages to try to hide what he did. He now faces the possibility of life in prison.

The case started when Asomuyide responded to a runaway call as a new officer. The girl later told investigators he picked her up, asked strange personal questions, and swapped numbers with her.

In another runaway incident, he showed up at her house, forced her into his squad car, and took her somewhere isolated. Federal prosecutors proved he violated her rights through kidnapping and abusive contact with a minor.

Breaking Down the Charges

This kind of federal case hits hard because it mixes abuse of power with sex crimes against a child.

The jury convicted him of deprivation of rights, witness tampering, and other counts. Things like phone tracking data, deleted apps, and the victim’s account played a big role.

Even officers who think they can control the story often find that digital trails and honest testimony catch up with them. Cases like this remind us how fast a position of trust can turn into a nightmare scenario in court.

Investigations That Hit Close to Home

In New York, we often see parallel situations where accusations fly against teachers, coaches, or even law enforcement. Investigators move fast—seizing phones, pulling records, and interviewing everyone around you.

One wrong word early on can lock in a tough defense later.

Real-Life Fallout from These Verdicts

When you get convicted in a case involving a minor, life changes overnight. Those are the rules about where you can live, who you can work with, and even simple stuff like visiting family.

And the emotional fallout? It slams into your relationships, no question.

In a city like New York, the public judgment doesn’t let up, no matter how much time passes. Even after the news stories move on, you’re still left picking up the pieces, trying to figure out what “normal” even means anymore.

The family of a 16-year-old Long Island girl says she was raped in Brooklyn. It all began on March 10, 2026, when a 16-year-old girl from a tight-knit Orthodox Jewish family in Nassau County (Long Island), New York, took an Uber.

The ride was allegedly arranged/ordered via the man she had been communicating with on Snapchat.

The driver dropped her off alone in Bushwick, Brooklyn, without verifying her age or ensuring she was with an adult , which violates Uber’s policies on unaccompanied minors (drivers are supposed to check IDs for riders who appear underage and generally not transport minors alone without a special teen account).

The Assault and Threats

Once in Brooklyn, the girl met 26-year-old Ralfy Figueroa. Police say Figueroa had been pressuring her for weeks. He allegedly threatened her, saying he knew where she lived and would hurt her family if she didn’t meet him.

According to court papers, Figueroa forced the girl into sexual acts in his car, filmed it, and threatened her with guns.

The family says she was so traumatized that she is now getting mental health treatment out of state. Her mother told the court that if the videos ever became public, her daughter said she would kill herself.

Figueroa has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape. He was already in a special program for young offenders after a previous drug arrest.

Questions About Uber’s Responsibility

The family’s lawsuit claims Uber is partly to blame because their driver ignored safety rules for underage riders.

Uber says it encourages drivers to cancel rides with unaccompanied minors and report them, but the family argues the company failed to protect their daughter.

Why Cases Like This Matter

Sexual assault cases involving teenagers are incredibly serious, especially in New York, and not to mention that if you’re involved or merely being investigated, it can ruin your public CV forever.

For the victims and their families, the emotional damage can last for years. Anyone accused of these crimes faces extremely serious penalties and consequences that can follow them for the rest of their life.

Witnesses described the scene as a “war zone” as gunfire erupted inside the Route 22 restaurant just before 9 p.m.

Authorities said the incident is now being investigated as part of the 100th mass shooting in the United States this year, according to Gun Violence Archive data.

Police Say Attack Appears Targeted as Suspects Remain at Large

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office said the shooting does not appear to be random, though officials have not released a motive.

No arrests have been made, and law enforcement officials say they are actively searching for the suspects involved.

Chaos Erupts as Witnesses Describe Gunmen and Panic

According to witness accounts, masked individuals entered the restaurant, forced their way behind the counter, and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

“It was a war zone,” one witness said through a family member speaking to CBS.

Video from the scene appears to show a suspect running through the parking lot, while dashcam footage captured customers fleeing in panic as shots were fired.

A Lyft driver named Martin said he heard multiple gunshots while nearby.

“I heard at least seven shots. It was very close. People were running everywhere,” he told ABC7.

Investigators were later seen processing the scene as forensic teams collected evidence from inside the restaurant.

Shooting Investigation Continues as Legal Help and Public Tips Are Sought

Six additional victims were injured in the attack. The shooting marks the 100th mass shooting in the United States this year, defined as an incident in which four or more people are killed or injured according to Gun Violence Archive data.

State Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said she was “horrified” by the violence and confirmed that a full investigation is underway.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” she wrote on X. “Gun violence has no place in our state.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, noting that tips leading to an arrest and conviction may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000.
