Timothy Busfield, the well-known actor and director, has been arrested and charged with child sex abuse charges. Unfortunately for Busfield, a tidal wave of past allegations, complaints, and never-before-shared testimony has emerged in light of the recent allegations.

Busfield has been involved in Hollywood for years. He’s best known for his roles in “Field of Dreams”, “Thirtysomething”, and “The West Wing”. Throughout the years, he’s been called a “creep” and faced lawsuits that ended in quiet settlements, but he’s never faced criminal charges until recently.

Just recently, it has come to light that Julia Roberts’ sister-in-law, Eliza Roberts, once voluntarily submitted a deposition for a court case involving Busfield. In her deposition, she described Busfield as a creep who would compulsively chase after women. She claimed that he had attempted to get her to have sexual relations with him despite him being married at the time. This deposition was provided in response to a lawsuit submitted by a 17-year-old girl who was accusing Busfield of sexual harassment on the set of “Little Big League”, where she was an actor and he was a director. Ultimately, this case was settled out of court in 1995 for an undisclosed sum of money.

In November 2024, an official investigation into Busfield’s actions was launched after officers with the Albuquerque Police Department were called out to the University of New Mexico Hospital by a doctor. Once they arrived, the doctor explained the situation.

That night, eleven-year-old twins who starred on the show “The Cleaning Lady” in 2024 had been admitted to the hospital with ‘suspicious’ injuries. After being questioned by the doctors, one of the children admitted that sexual abuse incidents had been ongoing since he was seven years old. Horrifically, the police department declined to press charges at the time.

One of the boys also stated that he was “very afraid” of Busfield when he was on set, but he didn’t tell anyone at the time because Busfield was the director. The youngster feared getting into trouble and also feared making the powerful director mad.

Later on, the case was later reopened when the same assault was re-reported twice more by one of the children’s counselors and his pediatrician. Now, Busfield is facing two counts of sexual contact with a minor and child abuse.

Sexual Conduct Against a Child in New York City

Under New York Law, getting charged with sexual contact with a minor can have serious consequences, but the severity of the penalties often depends on factors like the nature of the contact, the age of the child, and the perpetrator’s age. The most serious charge, sexual conduct in the first degree, is a class B felony, while a second-degree charge is a class D felony.

Brooklyn resident Sanjai Syamaprasad has been ordered to serve a six months sentence behind bars after secretly filming thousands of unsuspecting patients and visitors at a Nassau County Sleep Center.

According to reports, the filming incidents began back in July of 2023 and continued until April of 2024. Sanjai was an employee of the Northwell Health Sleep Disorders Center during the duration of the illegal filming activities.

Court records indicate that Sanjai intentionally concealed cameras inside of smoke detectors and then stuck them inside of bathrooms at the Sleep Disorders Center in Great Neck. He also allegedly put a camera in a public bathroom in the same building that was not a part of the sleep disorder center.

Unfortunately, these cameras would record patients, visitors, and staff members in vulnerable moments, like when they were using the restroom, and many of these videos did expose the private parts of the victims. Sanjai is accused of removing the cameras at the end of his shifts and transferring all the images and videos to an SD card.

Sanjai was reportedly at work and watching one of the videos he took from the bathroom in April of 2024 when another co-worker became suspicious. This unnamed individual could tell the video footage appeared to be from one of the center’s restrooms, so they immediately became disturbed. They reported the incident to management. Soon after, the authorities were alerted and Sanjai was fired.

Nassau County Detectives executed a search warrant on the suspect’s home, where they recovered multiple electronics.

Among the items collected were phones, several laptops, and an SD card reader. Under the pressure of police questioning, Sanjai admitted he also threw a smoke detector camera in a garbage can at a nearby CVS. He also confessed to smashing up a small CD card and tossing it in the same trash.

On July 15, 2025, Sanjai pleaded guilty to five counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

At first, the judge was only going to sentence the suspect to probation, but impactful witness statements encouraged the judge to sentence Sanjai to jail time.

Unlawful Surveillance in New York

In New York, unlawful surveillance is a felony offense. Typically, a conviction will result in jail time from one to seven years behind bars depending on the specifics of the situation. What’s more, a person convicted of unlawful surveillance will also be required to register as a sex offender. That means their name, address, picture, and charges will need to be listed out on a public sex offender list.

A felony conviction will also result in a loss of specific rights such as the right to possess a firearm, vote, and hold public office.

A disturbing love triangle tragically turned fatal for two young men who were reportedly attempting to date the same woman – a 50-year-old unidentified woman who is identified as “Sarah”.

According to reports, the incident occurred on April 12th at around 10 P.M. 28-year-old Frank Liu was allegedly confronting Neo Secaira, a 17-year-old, at the Love of Christ Presbyterian Church about his romantic involvement with “Sarah”. While it’s unclear what exactly was said or if words were even exchanged, the 17-year-old was shot in the chest.

Then, Liu turned the weapon on himself and fatally shot himself in the head.

Medics rushed the victims to the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, but neither one survived.

This incident is still under investigation. Adding to the mystery, the building’s superintendent told authorities that Liu had just recently returned to the area and moved back in with his parents after living in North Carolina for a few years. Just a few days prior to the shooting, Liu’s building superintendent said he saw Liu return home with a younger woman who looked like she was only 19 years old. The two seemed to be laughing and having a good time. The superintendent said that the two also looked like they could be dating.

Neighbors said that they often heard fighting coming from the apartment where Liu lived, but many neighbors expressed that they thought the fighting came from the parents rather than Liu. The parents had a history of domestic issues.

Neighbors of the 17-year-old were shocked and dismayed by the killing, expressing how the adolescent was a great kid who worked a lot and attended school. He was also known to work on vehicles and was a member of the local high school swimming team.

On Thursday, October 10th, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs made his first court appearance during his very publicized trial on sex trafficking allegations. Considering P. Diddy’s notoriety in Hollywood, it’s clear why the star’s arrest and charges have continued to make mainstream headlines for several months.

1. Diddy is accused of committing egregious sexual crimes over the years, but he is adamant about his innocence. He’s pleaded not guilty to all charges.

After months of speculation, emerging evidence, viral video proof of abuse, and more, Sean Combs, more publicly known as P. Diddy, has finally been arrested. The judge had denied the former rapper bail and ordered him to wait for his trial date behind bars.

According to the judge, keeping Diddy behind bars seems like the best option for him because the judge has “very significant concerns” about Combs’ substance abuse and anger issues. The judge further explained that she considered alternatives, but there was too much speculation about Combs’ actions behind closed doors to allow him to walk free.

It seems like a wise decision, since prosecutors have further accused Diddy of witness tampering. They’ve alleged that Combs’ employees have attempted to silence his ex-girlfriend and hotel staff regarding the LA hotel incident.

Combs was arrested in Manhattan by Homeland Security Investigations agents while he was in a hotel lobby. Combs has pleaded not guilty to his many charges, which include sex trafficking, racketeering, assault, transportation to engage in prostitution, and more. These charges, according to reports, are mostly tied to alleged coerced sex acts Diddy coordinated as part of his “freak off” sessions. These sessions were also recorded.

These charges emerged after multiple women came forward about Diddy’s alleged abuse. Cassie, a former girlfriend, filed a civil lawsuit against the rapper claiming that he sexually and physically abused her during their relationship. The claim was quietly settled with Diddy denying all the allegations.

Cassie’s bravery helped inspire others to come forward, too. Not too long after the original claim was filed, security footage from a hotel emerged that showed Diddy becoming extremely violent with Cassie. Suddenly, a barrage of lawsuits began accumulating against Diddy. One former employee, Rodney Jones, has accused Combs of serious illegal activity including forcing people into sex work, coercing sex acts, sexually harassing people, committing sex crimes against minors, drugging people without their consent, and even ordering others to commit violent crimes on his behalf.

All these allegations eventually culminated in a massive investigation by Homeland Security.

Diddy’s defense attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told news reporters that he believes the prosecution is unjust and is adamant about his client’s innocence. He further explained that Combs even intentionally relocated to New York last week after expecting the warrant for his arrest to be handed down soon.

Gabriel Olds, a 52-year-old New York native, was recently arrested after multiple women have come forward accusing the suspect of a slew of sexual-related crimes.

Police first started investigating the suspect after a 41-year-old woman filed a report and stated that Olds raped her in her LA home. Shortly later, two unrelated victims made similar claims about Olds.

All three women were able to identify the suspect because he is a well-known actor clearly, so it’s very unlikely that this was a case of mistaken identity. Gabriel Olds has appeared on several popular television shows, including “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Six Feet Under”, and he portrayed Pat Robertson in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”. It’s also been reported that he was using his ‘Hollywood’ status to lure in his victims.

An investigation revealed that Olds had been using the same tactics to abuse women as far back as 2013. He was reportedly using both his success on tv and film as well as his status as a Yale graduate to entrap and then assault women he would meet on dating apps. First, Olds would be charming and nice to his victims, eventually convincing them to allow him to come to their homes. Once there, he’d use “brutal” and extreme violence to rape and assault his victims.

Olds was arrested and charged with seven felony counts of sexual assault. Law enforcement officers believe that there are likely additional victims considering Olds’ status as an actor.

Detectives believe that these women may fear coming forward, but they’re hopeful that this recent arrest will help give survivors the courage and strength to do so.

Record producer “The-Dream” is well-known for his incredible talent of producing uber-successful mega hits. Some of his best and most well-received works include Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” and “Break My Soul,” as well as Rhianna’s “Umbrella”.

He’s also written plenty of his own music, too. The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, has received 8 Grammy Awards over the years, and he’s been nominated over 21 times.

A recent complaint, however, is bringing attention to The-Dream for all the wrong reasons. Chanaaz Mangroe, a 33-year-old who also goes by the stage name Channi Monroe, reported in the complaint that The-Dream was “abusive, violent, and manipulative.” She further went on to claim that the relationship she formed with the producer was filled with psychological manipulation, violent sexual encounters, and physical assaults.

In the report, Mangroe says that a representative working with The-Dream, who was 46 years old at the time, reached out to her on social media asking for samples of her music.

This occurred back in 2014. The producer must have liked the samples because one year later, Mangroe was being flown out to Atlanta and being told that she was going to become the next Rihanna. Unfortunately, Mangroe says that the producer subjected her to extreme treatment and told her that her compliance would help her career. She was forced to share embarrassing details about her life, diet, exercise excessively, experience rape, consume drugs and alcohol, limit her contact with others, and remain in a locked room at times. She was forced to leave her previous record label contract.

The-Dream is denying all the allegations stated in the complaint. The suit has been filed in a Los Angeles federal court, and it also names both of The-Dream’s record labels Contra Paris LLC and Epic Records.

Tragically, countless individuals perish and never get justice by having their stories told. Cold cases go unsolved, and bodies sometimes never get identified. For instance, the remains of one woman, only known as “Fire Island Jane Doe,” have gone unidentified for almost 30 years now. Despite technological advancements, investigators were never able to identify the individual.

Amazingly, investigators have finally experienced a breakthrough in this cold case.

Investigators tested the skull of the unidentified individual, which was originally discovered back in 1996 on the Bayshore side. This testing had already been done in the past, but genetic genealogy advancements have now helped investigators connect the unidentified DNA to close relatives. The match was confirmed last October when investigators were able to get a DNA swab from a living relative of the suspected victim.

This process is called genetic genealogy.

The victim is now believed to be Karen Vergata.

Vergata, a formerly 34-year-old, was last seen on Valentines Day in 1996. While it’s unclear if her profession had anything to do with her disappearance, it is believed that Karen was working as a sex worker at the time she went missing.

The nature of this case has led many to wonder if the Gilgo Beach killer may have been responsible for Vergata’s death. The Gilgo Beach Killer, Rex Heuerman, is already in custody. He is a known serial killer who has been convicted of at least three slayings involving sex workers.

Despite this potential connection, prosecutors have declined to discuss any potential suspects in this case. The investigation, they say, is ongoing.

64-year-old Jacob Daskal, a former anti-crime patrol chief, has been arrested and accused of grooming a minor into an illegal sexual relationship. According to court records, the suspect is accused of targeting the 15-year-old minor starting back in 2017. The relationship started when the youngster, who was also a member of the Orthodox Jewish community, started having problems with her biological family.

She had asked a local mentor for help. This mentor contacted the Borough Park Shomrim Society, who then partnered the young child up with Daskal.

Instead of helping the child with her difficulties, Daskal reportedly instead offered to let the child move in with him and his wife in Brooklyn before getting her permanently set up to live with her aunt and uncle. When her aunt and uncle left for the summer and at other times, however, the child would stay with Daskal.

According to the child, the abuse started around that summer in 2017. Daskal allegedly asked the girl to remove her clothing, molested her, and then raped her several times. This incident was not a one-time ordeal, either, as Daskal would repeat this behavior on several different occasions. Sometimes, he would cross state lines to engage in more sexual encounters.

Even worse, he reportedly used his position as an anti-crime patrol chief to intimidate the girl. He told her that he had police protection and was very well respected within the Jewish community. He also warned her that he would deny any allegations if she ever tried to come forward with what happened.

By November, the young girl confided in one of her classmates about the ongoing ordeal. The classmate bravely stood up for her friend and told the school’s principal. In fear of the consequences, the victim initially denied the claims and she was expelled from the school. Daskal attempted to have the girl write him letters that he could use as a legal defense, but the girl instead confided in a new mentor about the ongoing situation. At that point, the Brooklyn district attorney’s office stepped up and officially pressed rape charges against the suspect. He is set to stand trial soon.

New sex trafficking charges were filed against Ghislaine Maxwell this week, including a fourth underage victim added to the case and a new charge of sex trafficking conspiracy. And so the Ghislaine Maxwell saga continues. Although the case is salacious fodder for the media frenzy, it does help shine a light on a very real problem here in New York City and throughout the United States.

Sex trafficking is alive and well and not necessarily confined to the upper crust or dark shadows. It is also just as prevalent out in plain sight here in New York City, should we care to take the time to look.

How Prevalent?

Special agents involved in the FBI Crimes Against Children and Human Trafficking program have indicated that, as of November 2020, there were over 1,800 pending trafficking investigations throughout the country. Here in New York, Gov. Cuomo launched a media campaign back in August to bring awareness to trafficking and to dispel myths. But those of us who understand sex crimes in New York know that as kids logged on for their online classes because of COVID, they were also entering a world of potential predators.

“Pervasive and Under-Addressed Problem” in New York City

Restore NYC, a local nonprofit assisting and advocating for survivors of human trafficking in the United States, reports that sex trafficking is a pervasive and under-addressed issue here in New York City, with our city serving as a “gateway and one of the largest destinations for trafficked women in the country.”

While the media surrounding Ghislaine Maxwell may spin it as something unusual that happens to “certain” people, the reality is far more prevalent and often happens right under our noses.

According to Restore NYC, traffickers adeptly lure victims through a variety of means. These can be deceptive job offers or otherwise false promises. The young women allegedly lured by Maxwell and Epstein were enticed with promises of modeling careers. Once in the grips of traffickers, victims are commonly kept in check through exploitation of their fears and vulnerabilities.

Consequently, they often become both emotionally and economically dependent on them. Some traffickers specifically prey on immigrants or at-risk kids with little self-esteem, opportunities, or options.

Bridget Simunovic, a victim specialist with the Pittsburgh FBI office, says she sees local kids being coerced every day. She said one tactic that was used by traffickers was giving someone a compliment as they walked by. If they turned around to say “thank you,” it was something that they looked for.

“(Traffickers) look for that vulnerability, they look for that isolation,” she said.
