Once again, I am drawn into a discussion of the George Zimmerman case. I was asked by my mother of all people if it’s Second Degree Murder because Zimmerman was supposedly following Trayvon. So I told my mother the same thing that I’m about to tell you. You can follow anyone in America all day long if you choose and no one can stop you. Why you would want to do this I have no clue…but you can legally follow someone. If it were illegal to follow someone the paparazzi would not have all the pictures that they have of celebrities. Haven’t you noticed that it is the celebrity who punches the paparazzi that gets into trouble, not the annoying photographer?
You may follow and even take pictures, but you cannot block someone from their car, home, or path of leaving and you cannot touch them. I know this sounds strange or odd to most of you who, perhaps, felt that the anti-stalking laws covered this, but, no, they did not. You might perceive that someone is following you for a purpose, but that doesn’t mean that they are. You have no right to run quickly around the corner and then trip them or jump them as they walk by. Unfortunately, you have to wait to see what they will do to you. My personal feeling is that if you are walking through a dark parking lot at night and someone is following you that you should have 911 ready and some pepper spray.
So where does that leave us? Still not knowing. Did George Zimmerman follow Trayvon Martin without touching him? I still don’t know from the evidence that I have seen.
