Boston Marathon Bombing
Bukh represented Azamat Tazhayakov, who attended the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth with accused Marathon Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Tazhayakov was accused of obstructing an investigation into a terrorist offense and faced a potential penalty of up to 25-years incarceration. Sentencing was scheduled for October 16 but was delayed by a pending Supreme Court case. The Boston Globe reported that a long prison term was “unlikely” given mitigating circumstances presented by the defense.
Cyber Crime Theft Offenses
Bukh has provided representation to high profile cyber crime defendants. Bukh represented Igor Klopov, who was accused of stealing more than $1.5 million from individuals on the Forbes 400, including a close friend of former President George W. Bush. Four accomplices involved in the scheme pled guilty. Bukh defended Klopov, who was sentenced to just 3.5 to 10.5 years in prison despite facing the potential for decades of incarceration.
The King of Spam
Bukh represented Oleg Nikolaenko, who the Federal Bureau of Investigation described as the “King of Spam” due to his alleged responsibility for sending as much as a third of all worldwide spam. Sex Offenses
Bukh represented Michail Sorodsky, who admitted to sexually molesting six female cancer patients and raping another patient who was sedated. Sorodsky was sentenced to six years imprisonment and 10 years supervised parole, despite facing the potential for a much lengthier prison sentence.
